My love for Sutenia. It grows and grows. What was once perhaps a crack pairing or just two pretty faces put together has become a genuine love of mine <3
I remember right when the oneshot came out I was like fdskfjsdkfjskdf must go to my favorite Japanese fanart sites and SAVE SAVE SAVE. Oh and I did. But it wasn't enough, so I ended up copy-pasting text into translators. Hurhur ;;;;;;;; But. I'm glad I did because I found out some pretty interesting things.
Like I found out that people also thought that Ohba only ended the series the way she did with the "protagonists" winning because she was pressured to do so as it was Shonen Jump property. I also found out the my dear sweet Near wasn't as popular as I thought. Hehe, no surprise there.
OH oh, but what truly made it worth it was the fact that there was some actual basis for this pairing's existence! <333 Ohhhh, it was awesome.
Basically Gevanni doesn't say a lot in the series, and when he does, it's usually out of the blue, saying things like "It'd be interesting if it was Kira" or "He was also going out with Amane since university."
In fact, it's only Rester and Lidner who really say anything at all. Throughout the series, really, it's just the two of them always talking to Near and interacting with him while Gevanni stays sort of silent. I think it's partly because he wants Near to like him. ...To think of him as an unquestioning loyal member of the SPK.
But, oh, when he does talk, it's usually quite suspicious. There is sort of a one-sided rivalry with Rester that he may have. Right after Rester spoke, "Well of course it's the the kidnappers," Gevanni says, "It'd be interesting if it was Kira," as if trying to top his statement. And right after Rester gives he wonderful report on Takada, Gevanni says a particularly dumb statement, "He was also going out with Amane since university." Hell, even Halle gives him a "um, yeah, right" look right after he says that. Nice going Gevanni.
The pinnacle of this when Near telling Gevanni his mission to look at the notebook, and he's really nervous and unsure about it, but then Near mentions that Rester could do it and finally, Gevanni agrees.
Heck, even when Near was telling Halle that Mello was pretty much going to contact her he was like, "I-I'll do i---," and Lidner, says quite elegantly, "I'm in."
In conclusion, I'd say it's canon that Gevanni wants to impress Near, not necessarily so he can tenderly love him, but because he wants to desperately be a valuable member and asset of and to the SPK.
Thus, comes our basis for love to blossom. <3333
Ah, my love for Sutenia grows.
I'll stop procrastinating and go to bed now.
